Finally after years and three seasons, Avatar: The Last Airbender, has come to a conclusion. It has been a long and perilous journey for the characters, and a beautiful tale to see, full of angst, joy, friendship, rivalry, and self-discovery. It's final lessons are true and wonderful, and Avatar will hopefully take its place amongst the pantheon of cartoon greatness.

I will admit that when I first started watching Avatar, I took it for yet one more example of the overly silly and mind-numbing drek that was coming out of NickToons studios at the time. A ten-year old bald kid with the power to control air teams with two Arctic teens to try to save the world while another guy with bad skin problems on his face tries to roast them. As I watched more of the show, I began to fall in love with Aang's exuberant personality, Sokka's fun egotism, Katara's sweet nature... and even Zuko's complexity.

As I have watched the series progress, I could only enjoy it more and more, waiting with baited breath as each new season took its sweet time getting to us, and even taking breaks in between. New characters were added, only one or two that were hated, and old characters died. Now as the conclusion of this long war has ended, I can only feel the strange satisfied emptiness that comes from such excellence. It is the mark of a good story to make those seeing it want to see how it ends, but at the same time want it to never do so, and the story of Aang is one of those that makes you feel just that. Now I find myself needing to collect all three seasons, if only to have the wonderful story for myself as well.

Good-bye and good journey Avatar: The Last Airbender. Though your greatness was sometimes not seen, let you legend and your fandom never die.
